International Education
On an international scale, environmental education began to gain more ground after the first Intergovernmental Conference on the Human Environment within the United Nations program held in Stockholm in 1972. From that point on, environmental education was considered a necessary "tool" to combat environmental problems. In Europe, countries that stand out for their environmental education are Denmark, Finland, Germany, Spain and Sweden.
