Unleashing renewable power for African Economic Development
Just over a month ago, the President of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency Cyril Ramaphosa, announced the reconfiguration of government. The proclaimed restructure has resulted in the merging of the Department of Minerals and Energy into the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy.
In his Budget Vote Debate Speech, the incumbent Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, His Honorable SG Mantashe, asserted the critical role of Mining and Energy to economic growth and development. He further outlined that merging the departments evidences the ‘mutually reinforcing nature of the two sectors for the South African economy’. Minister Mantashe, also expanded on the streamlining of processes, integration in the value chain from upstream to downstream, and ensuring the alignment of the policy and regulatory framework for stability and investment.
