ABOUT SOLAR KENYA 2019

2nd Solar Africa 2019

Date: 21- 23 March 2019

Location: Ethiopia - Millenium Hall, Addis Ababa

The overwhelming response from the Solar Industry has encouraged Expogroup to launch "SOLAR AFRICA" and after successful editions in Kenya and Tanzania Solar Africa is all set to step in the Ethiopian Market.

Solar Africa in Ethiopia will be held concurrently with Power &Energy Africa from 21st to 23rd March 2019.

The region offers tremendous opportunities to suppliers worldwide, having among the strongest solar resources in the world. In particular, the region offers excellent potential for concentrated solar power (CSP) and concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) systems.

Solar photovoltaics are being promoted to replace fuel-based lighting and off-grid electrical needs. Ethiopia is thought to have about 5 MW of off-grid solar. Almost all current solar power is used for telecommunications. Other uses include village well pumps, health care and school lighting. A current government initiative plans to bring solar power to 150,000 households. The first phase included 1 MW of panels. The first large installation of solar was a village grid of 10 kW in 1985, expanded to 30 kW in 1989. A solar panel assembly plant opened in Addis Ababa in early 2013 capable of making 20 MW of panel per year.

Many African countries are currently exploring the use of solar and other renewable energy, with Ethiopia being a strong market for Solar industry and is currently focusing on developing the same. The Government is also being very supportive by allowing solar products to enter the country duty free.

2nd Solar Africa 2019

Date: 23 - 25 May 2019

Location: Rwanda - Kigali Convention Center, Kigali

The overwhelming response from the Solar Industry at Solar Expo Africa 2017 has encouraged Expogroup to increase the exhibiting space by 30% in 2019.

Rwanda offers tremendous opportunities to suppliers worldwide, having among the strongest solar resources in the world. In particular, the region offers excellent potential for concentrated solar power (CSP) and concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) systems. It is generally characterized by a savannah climate and its geographical location endows it with sufficient solar radiation intensity approximately equal to 5kWh/m2/day and peak sun hours of approximately 5 hours per day.

The Government of Rwanda has identified the development of indigenous fuel sources, specifically renewable energy sources, as key to ambitious plans for economic growth. As one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa, importers and distributers of solar technology report a sharp increase in the demand for reliable solar technologies meet the electrification goals. Rwanda’s population is growing fast and access to affordable, clean power is vital to improving living standards and developing the country’s economic potential in the future.

6th Solar Africa 2019

Date: 25 - 27 July 2019

Location: KICCNairobi - Kenya

Kenya is all prepared to spend USD 2.1 billion on electrification in off-grid areas focusing on renewable powered minigrids. As part of the nation’s 2016-21 strategic plan, the Rural Electrification Authority aims to install around 450 minigrids powered by solar sources.

On the consumer side, it is estimated that about 25,000 to 30,000 solar PV products are traded annually in the Kenyan market and that at least every household has owned atleast one solar PV product.

The 06th Solar Expo Kenya will not only serve as a platform in Kenya but the entire East and Central African region. The participation in 2019 is expected to rise by at least 30% owing to the ever increasing need of solar projects and products in Africa. While exhibitors from 14 countries participated in 2018, the figures in 2019 are expected to reach 20 countries.

5th Solar Africa 2019

Date: 7 - 9 Nov 2019

Location: Tanzania- Diamond Jubilee Expo Center ,
Dar-es-Salaam

The overwhelming response from the Solar Industry has encouraged Expogroup to launch Solar Africa Exhibition, to be held concurrently with P&E Africa.

The region offers tremendous opportunities to suppliers worldwide, having among the strongest solar resources in the world. In particular, the region offers excellent potential for concentrated solar power (CSP) and concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) systems.

Many African countries are currently exploring the use of solar and other renewables, using tenders (or PPAs) as the vehicle for expansion. As incentives in Europe decrease, project developers and investors are keenly interested in deploying solar technologies in Africa. Vast rural areas produce high demand for solar electrification.

Power grids in rural Africa currently tend to be powered by diesel generator sets often running 24 hours each day. While relatively cheap to buy, speedy to install and simple to use, these diesel generator sets burn a lot of fuel, push out CO2 and require a lot of refueling and maintenance. Rising diesel prices and environmental concerns are therefore driving grid operators to reconsider their offering and reduce emissions.
