Europe’s biggest subsidy-free solar project’ nears completion in Portugal.

Chinese manufacturer Jetion Solar has supplied 221 MW of its polycrystalline modules to the scheme, which is being developed by Irish firm WElink Energy with state-owned China National Building Materials the EPC provider

Jiangsu-based solar manufacturer and project developer Jetion Solar has reinforced the idea subsidy-free solar has come of age in Europe while giving the lie to the theorypolycrystalline solar modules are yesterday’s news.

The Chinese company today revealed more details of the Solar a 4 project it has supplied with 221 MW of its modules in Vaqueiros, Portugal.

With the project set to become Europe’s largest subsidy-free solar facility upon completion in September, Jetion said it has been shipping 661,000 of its JT325-340PAg polycrystalline modules to the site since the last quarter of last year. A press release issued by Jetion in February indicated shipments were set to finish last month, and also stated the total generation capacity installed would be 219 MW.

The project is being developed by Irish renewables company WElink Energy with state-owned Chinese entity China National Building Materials Group Corp performing engineering, procurement and construction at the site.
