Can wind turbines operate below 0°C?

After the #Texas outages we received a number of requests from journalists and citizens. What happens to #windturbines when it snows? Can they continue to produce green #electricity?

"#Windenergy has not been the main reason for the Texas blackouts. Modern #windturbines have anti-icing solutions, ice sensors and heating elements. This allows the European #windindustry to produce electricity safely and reliably in tough conditions in Northern #Scandinavia. Blaming wind energy for the outages in Texas is wrong”, says Giles Dickson, WindEurope CEO.

Find below some great images of wind turbines operating in winterly #Germany and #Sweden. Many thanks to Matthias Griebl and Kersten Hoogenberg for providing these wonderful shots.
