At Trondheim Conference, leaders, experts seek solutions to biodiversity loss.

05 07 2019 | 08:34

Representatives from the Governments of around 110 countries, and several leading experts, will assemble in Trondheim July 2nd to 5th to look at how we can reverse the trend and stop the loss of biodiversity.

The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) draws a gloomy picture of the state of biological diversity in the world in its global investigation. The recently published Global Assessment from IPBES points out that pervasive social changes need to ensure nature as a basis for life for future generations.

It is also clear that the world will not reach the goals the world has set to improve the situation, the so-called Aichi goals. A new global framework for biodiversity will be developed and adopted through the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Kunming in China in 2020.

Last year, the CBD pointed to The Trondheim Conferences on Biological Diversity as the most important meeting point for contributing knowledge and know-how to the work to create a new framework and new goals for the world's biodiversity.
