Orsted proposes 3.9-gigawatt offshore wind farm in Vietnam
Danish energy major Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) is planning to pour up to USD 13.6 billion (EUR 11.75bn) to deploy 3.9 GW of offshore wind turbines in Vietnamese waters, local news agency VNA said.
The huge project is expected to be executed in three phases at an overall investment ranging between USD 11.9 billion and USD 13.6 billion.
According to the report, Ørsted has proposed to install the turbines 14km (8.7 miles) southwest of Bach Long Vy island, in the Gulf of Tonkin, and 36km northwest of the Long Chau archipelago. The turbine will have hub heights of between 150m and 200m.
If built, the wind complex will be capable of generating around 13.7 million MWh of electricity annually.
