Solar Energy
The term Solar Energy includes all the different forms of energy coming from the Sun. The light and heat radiated, is absorbed by elements and compounds on Earth and transformed into other forms of energy. Today, technology takes advantage of a small proportion of our planet's solar energy with three types of systems: solar thermal, passive solar and photovoltaic systems, namely:
Active Solar Systems: convert solar radiation into heat.
Bioclimatic design and passive solar systems: they concern architectural solutions and the use of appropriate building materials to maximize the direct use of solar energy for heating, air conditioning or lighting.
Photovoltaic Solar Systems: convert solar energy directly into electricity.
