How Western Cape is driving successful energy wheeling
Teuteberg shared that they are standardising as much as possible to meet the Western Cape Government’s wheeling target
The Western Cape government is doing quite a lot of work in the wheeling space, supporting as many companies as possible to make use of the trading of electricity where it makes sense.
This is according to Bernhard Teuteberg, Lead at the Department of Infrastructure in the Western Cape Government.
Teuteberg shared that they are standardising as much as possible to meet the Western Cape Government’s wheeling target.
He said the Western Cape’s Wheeling Toolkit contains a lot of information on how to implement wheeling elements at all levels.
“I think one of the most important things that’s in there is building some standardised frameworks and templates. And you work with those things to make it easier for the industry to move forward as efficiently as possible.”
Teuteberg said they are starting to see good results. “My message is go and speak to the municipalities if you have a wheeling project that wants to happen there. Once a need is identified, it’s much easier to go and dedicate the resources for the municipality.
“But also have some patience. It’s not easy to do things in the public sector. And there’s lots of companies that are in place for very good reasons. And we need to make sure that we fund our government properly. But things are moving.”
