MOROCCO: environmental professionals expected at the Global Green Event
Environmental professionals are expected to attend the Global Green Event from 22 to 25 November 2023 at the Mohammed VI Exhibition Centre in El-Jadida. The international event is being held in Morocco under the banner of ecological transition and sustainable development.
From 22 to 25 November 2023, Morocco will be hosting the 13th edition of the Global Green Event, formerly known as Pollutec Maroc. Organised under the aegis of the Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, this international trade fair will welcome at least 10,000 trade visitors and at least 300 companies showcasing their expertise in ecological transition and sustainable development.
The exhibitions will focus on 10 themes, including water and polluted water. This is an issue that has come to the fore in recent years in Africa, in a context marked by water stress that is particularly affecting the north of the continent and the Horn of Africa. In North Africa, countries such as Egypt and Morocco have decided, in response to the water crisis, to treat wastewater for agricultural use.
Renewable energies will also be at the heart of the discussions, as the Cherifian kingdom aims to increase the share of renewable energies in its electricity mix, focusing in particular on solar and wind power. In 2021, the share of clean energy in Morocco’s electricity mix was 37.6%, or 4,050 MW according to official figures. Several African countries are following the same path. Egypt and South Africa, for example, are speeding up their energy transition.
A new challenge has now been added to the production of renewable energies: green hydrogen and its derivatives, notably ammonia and sustainable aviation fuel. In the opinion of several energy specialists, this emerging sector should accelerate the ecological transition between now and 2030. At the Global Green Event, exhibitions will also be organised around waste management, sustainable cities, green buildings, industrial pollution and other pollution risks.
