Enel breaks ground on large wind-plus-storage project in Texas.

Enel Green Power North America has started construction of the Azure Sky wind plus storage project in Texas that, once operational, will supply Kellogg Company with electricity through a 100MW virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA).

The project will comprise a 350MW wind farm coupled with 137MW of battery storage in Throckmorton County.

Azure Sky will comprise 79 turbines and generate over 1300 gigawatt-hours of electricity each year. It will be Enel’s third hybrid project in the US that integrates a renewable energy plant with utility-scale battery storage.

Under the terms of the VPPA, Kellogg will purchase approximately 360GWh of electricity a year from Enel. This will contribute to Kellogg’s efforts to achieve over 50% renewable energy and reach 50% of its global ‘Better Days’ goal to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 65%, Enel said,
