Mexico's Yucatan state inaugurates 90-MW Progreso wind farm.
The governor of Yucatan on Monday inaugurated the 90-MW Progreso wind farm, which became the fifth renewable energy project realised in the Mexican state.
Mauricio Vila Dosal said the three wind farms and two solar parks collectively generate 300 MW, according to a statement posted on the Yucatan government’s website.
The Progreso wind farm was developed by Energia Renovable de la Peninsula SAPI de CV, a partnership between Mexican renewables firm Vive Energia and Chinese turbine maker Envision Energy.
The investment in the project totalled USD 155 million (EUR 131.8m).
The wind farm is located by the road connecting Yucatan capital Merida and the port city of Progreso. It is made up of 36 turbines with 55-metre blades installed on 120-metre towers.
With Yucatan’s current wind and solar parks in operation, along with clean power plants operated by Mexican state-owned utility Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE), the state’s percentage of clean energy consumption reaches close to 50%, governor Vila Dosal highlighted.
The governor added that the Yucatan government would do everything in its power on local and federal level to support renewable energy projects.
