Bonn, UN Climate Change News, 13 June 2019 – At the UN climate change talks in Bonn in June of this year (17 – 27 June), developed and developing countries will showcase their climate action and ambition. At these transparency events, a number of developing and developed countries will present their activities to curb and reduce greenhouse emissions before 2020.

Transparency is at the heart of effective national and international climate action. It is the way that countries build trust and confidence that they are doing what they pledged to do and increasing climate action and ambition, both for the period up to 2020 and for the transition towards the commitments under the Paris Agreement which apply after that year.

The work on transparency at the Bonn climate talks will include the Multilateral Assessment of developed countries and the Facilitative Sharing of Views of developing countries. These workshops showcase the success stories and challenges that countries have in increasing climate action and ambition and provide space for learning from each other.

28 Countries to Present their pre-2020 Actions in Bonn

In total, 19 developed countries and 9 developing countries are presenting an update on their climate actions, increased ambition and for developed countries the progress towards achieving their 2020 target and for developing countries their national mitigation actions.

These events allow countries to share their achievements, innovative climate actions and experience in meeting the 2020 climate commitments.

They also allow other countries to ask questions on their climate ambition, to clarify their climate actions and to find out how replicable their climate actions are.

Questions have already been asked of those countries under Multilateral Assessment, including: what are country’s plans to increase ambition and strengthen their climate actions; what is the role of the land use sector in their climate actions and what are the drivers for any increases in greenhouse emissions. All questions and answers to developed countries are available on the relevant country pages which can be found from the Multilateral Assessment webpage.

The developing countries that will present their climate actions under the Facilitative Sharing of Views include: Armenia, Brazil, Nigeria, Republic of Korea, South Africa, Thailand, The Republic of North Macedonia, Uruguay and Vietnam.
