70s solar style!
70s SOLAR STYLE: This funky device known as a solar concentrator was one of the earliest solar energy technologies in the United States. Those shiny, metallic reflectors could be used in heating systems or combined with photovoltaic cells to convert solar energy into electricity.
.
Sun Trac Corp. developed the two-axis concentrator for @Argonne, using the lab's non-imaging reflector design. Solar has come a long way thanks in part to Energy Department research, which has helped make solar technologies more efficient and cost effective.
There are now more than 1 million solar installations at homes and businesses across the United States. Go to energy.gov/eere/solar to learn more about how the Energy Department is advancing the next generation of solar energy technologies.
