MOROCCO: 15 companies qualify for the 400 MW Noor Midelt III solar park

The Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Masen) publishes the results of a call for tenders for the construction of the third solar park of the Noor Midelt program. Among the fifteen independent electricity producers (IPP) are three Moroccan companies. Green Of Africa is in the running with its Spanish partner Acciona Generacion Renovable. The same is true for Nareva Holding which is continuing the selection process with the Saudi company Acwa Power.

The consortium formed by Taqa Morocco and the UAE IPP Masdar remains in the race, as does the Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios (Spain)/Vinci Concessions (France) group. EDF Renouvelables, the subsidiary of Électrcité de France (EDF) and its partner, the Japanese company Mitsui, were also chosen by Masen. SPIC Huanghe Hydropower Development, the only Chinese company, has formed a consortium with UAE IPP Amea Power.

There is also the Kahrabel FZE (United Arab Emirates)/GDF International (France) consortium which wants to participate in the implementation of the Noor Midelt program. The Spanish company Iberdrola Renovables Internacional is going it alone to obtain the concession for the Noor Midelt III solar power plant. The park, which will have a capacity of 400 MWp, will be equipped with a battery electricity storage system of approximately 400 MWh.

« With its three power plants Noor Midelt I, Noor Midelt II and Noor Midelt III, the Noor Midelt complex will have one of the largest solar and renewable storage capacities in the world, with a total installed capacity of approximately 1,600 MW, and will represent a real opportunity for sustainable socio-economic development for the region which shelters it”, indicates Masen. The Moroccan agency has still not published the final results of the call for tenders for the construction of the 400 MW Noor Midelt II power plant for which EDF Renewables, Iberdrola Renovables Internacional and several other multinationals had been pre-qualified.
