Our Planet, Our Home – Family art project

In these unprecedented times of social distancing and lockdown, many of us are spending more time than ever at home. While the coronavirus means we must keep our distance, we can still find ways to come together and call for climate action to protect our children’s futures. On Earth Day 2020, we found a creative way to raise our voices to demand a safe future for our children on our shared home, planet earth.

The Earth Day Family Art Project from Our Kids’ Climate and Parents For Future Global saw families getting coming together across the world by:

1. Drawing, painting and creating their own planet earth to display on windows, balconies, front doors, gardens, parks, or anywhere where people might notice.

Families used the materials they had in their homes to show their love for nature, the environment and our one shared home. It was about having fun and getting creative! Some used natural materials; others cardboard and poster paint. We also saw planet earths created out of old crayons and even planet earth cakes!

Some families were already putting art in their windows to thank key workers, and placed their planet earth alongside it.

2. We also created some printables to make it super easy. Families colored them in and put them on their windows – and they are still available to download and use today!

3. Families shared their images on social media – we saw images from Poland, Mexico, US, UK, Israel and Portugal to name just some. It was amazing seeing so many families standing up for our shared home and calling for action to protect our kids’ futures.

The fight for our shared home has never been more important. In this moment of collective vulnerability, there is a window of opportunity for deep change to protect our children’s future.
