For a 3rd consecutive year, EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network will be present at the Dubai Solar Show 2019 part of WETEX, the biggest solar exhibition in the region. Dubai Solar Show 2019 is taking place from 21 to 23 October 2019 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center, in Dubai, UAE.

We invite you to visit the Network at the Q20 Pavilion, meet with our team and discuss collaboration/synergies opportunities. Moreover, you will have the opportunity to meet the Network members Letter Ingenieros (Spain), MentalityX (Greece, UAE), Green (Kuwait), and Gerab Energy (UAE), which are hosted under the Network’s pavilion.

The Network serves as a Knowledge Partner at the 4th Annual Solar Show Seminar Week 2019, a DEWA initiative with the support of ATA Insights. Leading innovators will share the latest on renewable energy technologies and propose groundbreaking solutions to pressing issues such as the sustainable provision of clean water and power throughout the MENA region. The Seminar Week is taking place within the Dubai Solar Show 2019 from 21 to 23 October 2019 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center, in Dubai, UAE.

Frank Wouters, Network Director will present at the Decarbonizing Industry and Transport with Green Hydrogen session on Wednesday 23 October 2019, and on the same day Nick Carter, Network’s Electricity Interconnections and Market Integration Convener will share a presentation at the Big Energy Conversations (Part 3): What do corporate PPAs mean to the future of renewable energy? session. 9th Gulf Intelligence Energy Markets Forum

The Energy Markets Forum has established itself as the signature annual thought leadership event in the Gulf for C-level executives engaged in the Trading, Storing, Refining, Marketing and Shipping of energy to gather and exchange knowledge on trends impacting their industry. This year, the forum will explore the timely and relevant theme of IMO 2020: Megatrends & the Energy Transition.

Frank Wouters, EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network Director is participating as an invited speaker at the industry roundtable “How to get out in front of the great energy transition. Overcoming Challenges to Developing a Well-functioning Electricity Market in GCC and MENA

The King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Centre (KAPSARC) is organising the second roundtable workshop “Overcoming Challenges to Developing a Well-functioning Electricity in GCC and MENA” relating to the challenges of developing an electricity trading market in the GCC and MENA region. It takes place on Tuesday, 22 October 2019, at their campus in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The workshop’s focus is to explore various enablers which promote electricity market trading including; policy, legal, regulatory, institutional and market design which need to be addressed if an integrated electricity market is to be developed in the future. The EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network is participating in this workshop and is represented by Nick Carter, the Network’s Electricity Interconnections and Market Integration Convener, who will support the closing session relating to market integration in the GCC and MENA regions.  

 

Kuwait Smart Grid Conference & Exhibition
Kuwait 30-31 October 2019

Under the patronage of the H. E. Dr. Khalid Al Fadel, Minister of Oil and Minister of Electricity and Water, the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network and the Kuwait Society of Engineers are organising an EU-GCC conference on Smart Grids Technologies. The event will take place on 30-31 October 2019 at Radisson Blu Hotel in Kuwait City, Kuwait. 

The two-day conference will bring together policy makers, project developers, financial institution, technology leaders, industry advisories, financial experts, government representatives, and entrepreneurs from the EU, Kuwait and the wider GCC region, to debate on the key challenges and opportunities in smart grids sector, including policies & regulations, technologies and business models.

Solar Asset Management MENA
Dubai, UAE 17-18 November 2019

The Network is partnering with Solar Plaza and will perform as a Supporting Partner of Solar Asset Management MENA 2-day event. The event will be held in Dubai, UAE on 17-18 November 2019.

Frank Wouters, Network Director will moderate the 7th session of the event, entitledCurtailment, storage and hybrid systems. The main discussion points of the this session focus on how to ensure security of supply by presenting best practices and emerging new solutions, the risk of curtailment: grid network impact, the solar as a service and how to change the trouble maker into a solution, how to proceed in coupling solar with innovative energy storage, and the O&M implications of advanced plant set-ups.

10th Desert Energy Leadership Summit 
Berlin, Germany 25-26 November 2019

The 10th Desert Energy Leadership Summit will be hosted in Berlin, Germany on 25-26 November 2019. The Network is joining forces with the Summit organisers and will contribute to the agenda and Summit sessions. 

The 10th annual Dii Desert Energy Leadership Summit will be held on 25-26th of November, at the Adlon Kempiski hotel in Berlin. Combined with the 10th Arab-German Energy Forum and in co-operation with Ghorfa (Arab - German Chamber of Commerce), the conference will be held under the theme ‘The Energy Transition in the Arab World’. The event will offer a unique platform for the exchange of knowledge, strategies, experience and personal networking among an international audience from the public and private sector.

World Future Energy Summit (WFES) Energy Forum
Abu Dhabi, UAE 13-16 January 2020

The Energy Forum, taking place within the frame of the World Future Energy Summit 2020 in Abu Dhabi, UAE, will discuss strategies to ensure a stable grid - and the changing attitudes on how this can be achieved - research into the continued improvement in clean energy technologies and the opportunities and challenges introduced by the use of different storage, AI and blockchain technologies. EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network is engaged to Energy Forum sessions. Specifically, Frank Wouters, Network’s Director will join the session entitled “As renewables rise, does flexibility surpass baseload for grid stabilisation?” on Monday 13th January 2020 while Dr. Mustapha Taoumi, Network’s Clean Energy Technology Key Expert will join “The business case for off-grid electricity generation” session on Wednesday 15th January 2020.

Hydrogen: Bridging Sectors and Regions
Abu Dhabi, UAE 10 September 2019

The event “Hydrogen: Bridging Sectors and Regions” was organised within the 24th World Energy Congress in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday 10 September 2019. The side event was organised by the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, in collaboration with Hydrogen Europe, the Centre for Hydrogen Safety, the International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy and the Dii.

The aim of the event was to address new perspectives on ongoing low-carbon hydrogen initiatives, to provide insights on cutting-edge technology developments, address systems aspects including safety, as well as to inform the debate on hydrogen’s future role in global energy markets. High-level international experts presented their work and exchanged views in interactive moderated panels. The Network invited among others, EU companies (ENGIE, Siemens, etc) and EU institutions (Hydrogen Europe) to present EU technologies, best practices and discuss potential for collaboration. The role of hydrogen in a sustainable and secure future
Abu Dhabi, UAE 9 September 2019

The 24th edition of the World Energy Congress took place in Abu Dhabi, UAE from 9-12 September 2019 at ADNEC. Within the congress framework the session “The role of hydrogen in a sustainable and secure future” took place on September 9, 2019. The session, moderated by Frank Wouters, EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network Director, joined global energy leaders and experts who explored the critical drivers that fuel the energy transition. Specifically the experts who participated the panel discussion were:Willi Meixner, CEO, Siemens Power Generation Operations, Siemens AG, Dr. Alena Fargere, Future Energy Leader, World Energy Council, Geert Tjarks, Head of Division International Cooperation, NOW GmbH, Aqil Jamal, Chief Technologist, Carbon Management Research Center, Saudi Aramco, Linda Wright, Chief Executive, New Zealand Hydrogen Association, and, Shigeru Muraki, Executive Adviser, Tokyo Gas Company. The panel discussion focused on three main axes:

  • Existing projects and examples of such supply chain greening and infrastructure repurposing.
  • The success factors for the gradual greening to take scale and speed.
  • How to avoid the risk of dismantling existing (gas & liquids) infrastructure that can serve as backbone for a future hydrogen economy.

The session “The role of hydrogen in a sustainable and secure future” attracted more than 100 delegates, who were actively involved in the discussion and the live polls.

The 24th issue of the envirocities e-Magazine, produced by the Environment Center for Arab Towns, is hosting an article prepared by Frank Wouters, Director of the Network and Dr. Mustapha Taoumi, Energy Technology Expert of the Network. The article, entitled "Energy Efficiency & Renewables: Key Drivers for Clean Energy Transition for Green and Sustainable Cities” is available in both English and Arabic languages. Call for Papers: Energy Sources, Part B: Economics, Planning, and Policy
The Energy Sources, Part B: Economics, Planning, and Policy special issue is devoted to the latest developments in the field of dispatchable RES-e in terms of economics, policy & planning, and aims to provide valuable insights into the most effective solutions towards high RES penetration scenarios. There is an open call for high-quality papers that will contribute to the analysis of the drivers and barriers regarding dispatchable RETs in high RES-e penetration scenarios as well as the role that policy support, market design and geopolitics can play in their further deployment.
