On 2-4 April Bilbao will be the centre of business networking, knowledge exchange and thought leadership in the wind energy sector.  Market, technology and political leaders will gather at the BEC – Bilbao Exhibition Centre for the WindEurope 2019 Conference & Exhibition.  This is Europe’s premier on- and offshore wind energy event, with nearly 300 exhibitors, 35 conference sessions and a packed programme of side events and networking opportunities.

The theme of this year’s event is “Delivering a clean economy for all Europeans.”

Wind energy provides the affordable and reliable power people want. We’ll look at how wind benefits local communities, at the people who work in our industry, and the challenges around manpower, skills and qualifications. And at the local and broader political support for the continued expansion of wind.  We will be taking stock of what’s happening in the sector and what lies ahead for us.  We’ll have speakers like Michal Kurtyka, chairman of COP24, the Energy Ministers from both Spain and Portugal and Ministers from Croatia and Norway.

Specific issues we'll be covering include:

-          the roadmap to a wind-based energy system;
-          the challenge of system integration;
-          delivering a just energy transition for all Europeans;
-          what comes after Brexit;
-          getting the right framework for repowering and lifetime extension;
-          the commercialisation of floating offshore wind;
-          filling the skills gap in our industry,
-          and much more besides.

The complete conference programme will cover all the latest technology developments in turbines, digitalisation, recycling and resource assessment, storage and system integration.  It'll look at key trends in finance, including auctions.  And what's happening in different markets and in government policy.

We’re also organising an invitation-only roundtable discussion on 1 April on the impact of zero- and negative-subsidy auctions for offshore wind. We’ll bring together senior representatives from national governments, the European Commission, finance and industry.

On 4 April we’ll be hosting a half-day workshop on ‘The skills we need for tomorrow's wind industry.’ This workshop will create a platform discussing how HR strategy can contribute to tackling current skills gaps, skills evolution and how our industry can attract, train and retain talent.

We’ll also be hosting regional workshops, outlining the way forward for wind in places like Spain, Southeast Europe, and elsewhere. Check our side events to find out more.

In the meantime, the exhibition floor will give you the chance to connect with the key players across the whole wind industry value chain.  Market leaders and emerging players will be showing off the latest developments.  How the industry is reducing costs through technology and market innovations. How digitalisation is increasing wind farm output and supporting the integration of wind power into the energy system.  How the supply chain is evolving.  As well as OEMs and component manufacturers, the exhibition will also host special features like the GWO’s Safety, Skills & Training Zone and the Thought Leader’s Forum with MHI Vestas.

If you want to expand your knowledge base, make new industry contacts and help shape the vision for the future of wind energy, there's no better place to be than the WindEurope 2019 Conference & Exhibition.
