Prognosis for 2025
2025 started with disruptions in development finance following the change in US government policy with regards to putting a pause and later end to most US Agency for International Development (USAID) and Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) activities.
These policy changes affected a lot of energy and water infrastructure and technical assistance programmes in Africa which had to be temporarily halted or abandoned altogether.
On the other hand, other key international financing initiatives like the Mission 300, an initiative by the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank to provide electricity to 300 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2030, played a key role in re-shaping energy access programmes on the continent.
