The Northern Region Water Board (NRWB) is issuing a notice of prequalification for the extension of the drinking water supply system in Rumphi, a town in northern Malawi. Companies are invited to express their interest by May 16, 2023.

The supply of potable water in Rumphi will be strengthened through a new project. The project will rehabilitate, upgrade and expand the water supply system in the northern Malawian town. According to the Northern Region Water Board (NRWB), which is leading the project, the work will be carried out by a private company. The state-owned water treatment company has just issued the notice of prequalification for the project.

Companies interested in the notice of prequalification have until May 16, 2023 to apply. The shortlisted companies will then be able to bid on the tender to be launched in July 2024.

The selected company will have 18 months, followed by a 12-month guarantee period, to carry out all of the work planned for the water project. This includes the construction of four pumping stations and the installation of pumping units with a capacity ranging from 97 m3 per hour to 320 m3 per hour, the construction of a reinforced concrete weir of 25 m and reinforced concrete tanks with a total capacity of 7,500 m3.

The drinking water supplied through this network will come from a new water treatment plant. This facility will have a daily capacity of 19,415 m3. At least 20 villages in the vicinity of Rumphi will receive continuous drinking water through this project. The resource will be distributed through 200 new water points.
