Job: Senior Electrical Draughtsperson sought in Cape Town

The Electrical Draftsman will prepare accurate, constructible electrical drawings for large utility-scale renewable energy projects

A leading developer of utility-scale renewable energy projects is looking for a Senior Electrical Draughtsperson to join the team in Cape Town.

The company specialises across multiple renewable technologies – solar (PV), wind, water and hydro – and delivers only utility-scale projects of 100MW+. 

The Electrical Drafter will prepare accurate, constructible electrical drawings for large utility-scale renewable energy projects. 

You will translate engineers’ designs into detailed single-line diagrams, layout drawings, cable routing and earthing layouts for construction and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and update electrical drawings for PV plants and other renewable energy projects: single-line diagrams, general arrangement drawings, cable routing layouts and earthing/grounding layouts.
• Develop detailed drawings for inverter stations, transformer yards, MV/LV switchgear rooms, cable trenches and cable ducts per the engineers’ requirements.
• Produce cable schedules, termination diagrams, wiring diagrams and panel layout drawings required for construction and commissioning.
• Revise drawings based on engineers’ comments, design changes and site feedback; maintain clear revision records and traceability.
• Coordinate with electrical engineers and other disciplines (civil, structural,and mechanical) to ensure correct interfaces and installation details.
• Ensure drawings comply with relevant electrical standards, client specifications and grid code requirements.
• Assist with quantity take-offs for cables, trays, junction boxes and other electrical materials when required.
• Organise, archive and manage drawing files (DWG, PDF, etc) and support document control for issuing drawings to clients, contractors and project participants.

Qualifications & experience

• Associate’s degree, diploma or certification in electrical drafting, CAD technology or electrical engineering technology.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as an electrical draughtsperson.
• Experience on utility-scale projects (100 MW+) or large land-development/industrial projects is highly desirable.
• Proven portfolio of relevant project drawings strongly preferred.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and electrical drafting/design tools; experience with Revit/CAD coordination tools is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of cable routing, earthing systems, MV/LV switchgear, inverter/transformer yard layouts and commissioning documentation.
• Excellent attention to detail, strong coordination skills and ability to work to deadlines across multi-discipline teams.
