JUST TRANSITION: A CLIMATE ENERGY AND DEVELOPMENT VISION FOR AFRICA

The ‘JUST TRANSITION’ report outlines a sustainable energy and development vision for the continent. It emphasizes that Africa faces interconnected crises, such as energy poverty, climate change, and socio-economic challenges, many of which are rooted in colonialism. The report advocates for a shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy, focusing on achieving energy sovereignty, food security, and industrial growth. It stresses the importance of African ownership of energy resources and decision-making processes, rejecting external models that may hinder Africa’s progress. Additionally, the report proposes new financing mechanisms, including debt cancellation and tax reforms, to support the transition. Ultimately, it envisions an inclusive, equitable, and climate-resilient development model, positioning Africa as a global leader in sustainable growth.
