Energy Storage

Renewable energy supply and energy demand do not coincide in terms of time and quantity, and it is easy to understand that there is a need for energy storage in the grid. Initially, small-scale scientific technology studies are being subsidized to provide a more comprehensive energy management model that can be applied to large networks as well. Examples include the Islands of Tilos and Agios Stratis, where studies are being carried out for the introduction of storage batteries that store wind and solar energy  to be offerred when needed, especially during the summer period, when the electricity needs of these islands peak. Researchers have concluded that battery units are able to offer enhanced reliability and are much more efficient than thermal units but also emissions-free.
