UGANDA: a call for tenders for 40 solar systems dedicated to water production
The Ugandan Ministry of Water and Environment is inviting tenders for the supply, installation and commissioning of 40 solar photovoltaic systems as part of water supply projects, in four lots. Interested companies have until January 17, 2024 to come forward.
Uganda will acquire new solar photovoltaic plants to power water systems in 40 communities. This is the objective of the Ugandan Ministry of Water and Environment which has just launched a call for tenders for the supply, installation and commissioning of 40 solar systems.
The Ugandan government intends to rely on this infrastructure to improve the energy efficiency of water installations which can continue to operate, even in the event of a power outage. Furthermore, the government wants to extend access to electricity to households and communities using this clean energy.
Companies or independent power producers (IPPs) interested in the call for expressions of interest must register no later than January 17, 2024. The successful company will supply, install and commission 40 solar photovoltaic systems under the water supply projects, in four lots. According to Ugandan authorities, the first 10 solar systems will be installed in the localities of Kiwenda, Kikyusa, Bamunanika, Banda, Ssekanyonyi, Mayanga, Kayunga, Buyende-2, Kagulu and Kasambira.
The second set of 10 plants will be located in Kyamukonda, Biiso, Ulepi, India, Kuru, Lefori, Ayiilo, Adilang, Pallabek- Kal and Olilim. The company selected following the call for tenders will also supply and install 10 solar systems in the localities of Kasanje, Kyamulibwa, Kakyanga, Nabigasa- Lyabugumu, Ntungu, Isingiro TC, Rubaya, Kabura, Katuna and Nyakashaka- Rubingo.
The fourth and final batch of 10 solar systems will be installed in waterworks in Kyanvuma, Kyere, Kamod, Mkongoro, Abim-I, Losilang-1, Karenga, Iriri, Alakas and Nakapiripirit.
