The Brazilian government officials and representatives from Spanish PV sector player Solatio Energia on Friday inaugurated a solar power complex that will add 810 MWp once fully up and running.

Solatio, a company with more than a decade-long presence in Brazil, is installing the BRL-3-billion (USD 570.3m/EUR 480.6m) three solar-farm project in the state of Pernambuco.

The individual plants — the 80-MW Brigida, the 130-MW Bom Nome and the 600-MW Belmonte — are expected to form the largest solar complex in Latin America, the ministry of mines and energy (MME) said. Combined, the solar farms will produce enough power 800,000 families to consume, according to the ministry.

Bom Nome and Belmonte will commence operations in April 2022 and in the third quarter of 2022, respectively.

At present, Brazil has 3.3 GW of installed centralised solar power capacity, representing 2% of the national electricity mix, energy minister Bento Albuquerque said at the inauguration ceremony.
