Guterres: Climate collapse has begun - Heatwaves create 'devilish broth' of pollutants
"Scientists have long warned against the consequences of our dependence on fossil fuels," said Antonio Guterres
"Climate collapse has begun," UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres underlined today, in a statement he issued in response to the announcement of the global record high temperatures recorded during the summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
"Scientists have long warned against the consequences of our reliance on fossil fuels," he added. "Our climate is collapsing faster than we could cope with, with extreme weather events affecting all corners of the planet."
Heat waves, made more intense and more frequent by climate change, are creating a "devilish broth" of pollutants that threaten people and all living things, the UN warned today.
