A new 10 year challenge has sparked environmental concern about how much the environment has changed in the last ten years.

There has been a flood of photos shared across social media highlighting the shocking differences ten years has made to the environment.

Greenpeace took to Instagram to share two different pictures of the Amazon:

That which took nature hundreds of thousands of years to create, humans have destroyed in less than ten. This is the saddest #10YearChallenge you'll see today.

Footballer Mesut Ozil also tweeted about the importance of the online movement to promote the alarming rate of change to our environment.

The bleaching of corals was also recognised in the 10 year challenge. It has been found that 90 per cent of corals could be gone in 2050.

The IPCC report, released last year, highlighted the shocking reality of climate change if a 1.5 degrees Celsius target is not achieved. Environmentalists have argued that these photographs are a stark reminder of the harm we our doing to our planet.

This news follows a study that showed that North American glaciers are melting faster than they did 10 years ago.
