Part 3 and 4 of the Sustainable Investment Forum Europe 2021 took place this week on the 20 & 22 April, convening stakeholders committed to driving forward the sustainable finance agenda from government, business, and the investment community.

It was clear from the discussions that clearer frameworks allowing for more diligent transparency will be key for investors to reach goals of the Paris Agreement. Our panellists also discussed the important role of women in sustainable finance and how although this is increasing it is crucial that more is done to ensure they are represented across the finance sector as a whole.

Key Outcomes:

Paris Agreement
Carine Smith Ihenacho at Norges Bank highlighted the importance of companies having transparent business strategies that align with the goals of the Paris Agreement and the challenges that are created without this disclosure.

Women in Sustainable Finance
Our panellists discussed the role of women in sustainable finance and the great strides that have been made in recent years but that women should be encouraged to engage in finance in its entirety. Angelica Afanador at PCAF echoed this, highlighting the need for systematic change across the sector.

Green Infrastructure
Torben Möger Pedersen, CEO at Pension Danmark spoke on the importance of increased investment into green infrastructure, highlighting that it will be essential and necessary to meet net zero targets.

Europe as a leader for Sustainable Recovery
Olivier Guersent, Director General at the EU Commission, spoke on the important role Europe can play as a leader of sustainable recovery and how it must help drive green innovation and growth.

Holistic Approach
Our panellists discussed the importance of looking at the sustainable investment agenda holistically. Victor at Eurosif echoed this saying the increase of transparency alone will not be enough but we need to look at clearer frameworks and higher carbon pricing.

Collaboration
Torben Möger Pedersen, CEO at PensionDanmark, highlighted the importance of collaboration and said one of the most promising part of the journey is the asset owners developing new ways to join forces for new alliances that drive forward the sustainable finance agenda.
