Ioakeimidis: Can Kifissos withstand the effects of the climate crisis?
The candidate for Regional Mayor of Attica, Giorgos Ioakeimidis , spoke about the major challenges faced by Civil Protection in the era of the climate crisis.
We cannot simply invoke the climate crisis, without preparing the infrastructure and the Civil Protection to deal with the extreme phenomena that are happening constantly, emphasized in today's interviews with Action 24 and Open the candidate for Regional Mayor of Attica, Giorgos Ioakeimidis, speaking about the major challenges faced by Civil Protection in the era of the climate crisis.
The head of the Attic Circle of Cooperation and Trust underlined that the ambiguity that prevails in terms of the responsibilities of the local self-government and the central authority is convenient for the respective government to "not charge the political cost when disasters occur". He added that it is necessary to clarify clearly what we expect from each body in the context of Civil Protection, so that it is possible to evaluate the performance of all.
Giorgos Ioakeimidis cited Kifissos as an example of the challenges posed by the climate crisis. "The study on Kifissos was done 40 years ago, when weather conditions were milder. It is urgent to carry out a new study to determine the resistance of the project to the new weather phenomena, the consequences of which are exacerbated by the forest fires" , he pointed out.
Finally, G. Ioakeimidis also observed that the Region of Attica must function as an independent self-governing Authority and "not as a deputy ministry of Attica, with a Regional Governor appointed by the government". He criticized the dismissal of Patoulis and the assignment of the anointing by the government to Mr. Hardalia a few days before the elections, as "a practice that is not consistent with the European logic for the Regions, noting that "The Region of Attica is called upon to manage 1.6 billion from the NSRF. The EU gives this money to the Region and not to the government because it requires it to be managed by another power center."
