Following in the footsteps of Greta Thunberg, school children across the UK have gone on strike for climate change.

Following in the footsteps of Greta Thunberg, school children across the UK have gone on strike for climate change.

More than 8 million students are expected to attend the strike to demand action from the Government.

Greta Thunberg, 16 year-old Swedish Student, started the strike movement last year in her home country. Today, children from across the world are striking for a better future.

We, the undersigned academics, stand in solidarity with the children going on school climate strike on 15 February, and with all those taking a stand for the future of the planet.

Nelson Mandela once said: “Our children are our greatest treasure. They are our future. Those who abuse them tear at the fabric of our society and weaken our nation.” Human planetary abuse is, in a very real sense, child neglect.

Caroline Lucas, member of the Green Party, also took to twitter to express her support for the movement.

This follows a strike in Belgium last month where 35,000 students took to the streets to demands justice, doubling the crowds that marched through the capital the week before.

A new initiative called ‘Fridays for Future’ has been introduced, this will mean that students will strike every Friday until the government respond with an appropriate action.
