Help Dixon to plant 1 million trees in Uganda
”The difference between a dreamer and a visionary is that a dreamer has his eyes closed and a visionary has his eyes open” Dixon Bahandagira.
Climate change is something you can no longer deny or hide from. It is not an isolated problem for Africa, Arctic or Europe. Climate change will sertainly affect all humans from now on, and it is up to all of us to reduce the effects. But when financial resourses and leadership is virtually non-existent, the impact from natural disasters becomes extremely severe. As my friend Dixon Bahandagira experienced reccuring and increasingly severe floods in Uganda, he decided in 2019 to become an activist. He is now a coordinator for both Greenpeace Africa and Fridays For Future Uganda, a mission that sometimes can be dangerous. For exampel the activists organize strikes and trips to protect the existing forests.
But Dixon is a true visionary who refuse to be silent. He really wants to make a difference for the climate and his people. And he wants to make things happen. Since November 2020 he has been working on the project to plant 1 million trees. The territory is very fertile and plants are growing fast. Dixon has notised that many of his plants has grown more than 2 meters in one year. Trees are absorbing carbon dioxide which is necessary to slow down climate change. Uganda also has big problems with deforestation which makes this project even more urgent.
Dixon has already planted more than 150 000 trees since November 2020. He is planting together with people at schools, hospitals, churches and the society while creating awareness. For only 1$ Dixon can plant 5 trees. But it takes a lot of time and effort to buy tree seedlings and transport them. He is a determined man, and his vision is to plant 1 million trees. But biodiversity and protection of the plants is also very important. He use more than 10 species while planting and the local people is responsible to protect and take care of the plants until they are old enough.
When he is not planting or working with activism he is an ambiscious student. He studies Economy, Environmental science and Chinese, and masters no less than 7 languages!
If you decide to donate to Dixons project, I can ensure you that he will use it well. He will do everything in his power to reach his target and to create a better environment for his people. An environment which is habitable and healthy now and for the next generation.
